Which IP Do I Actually Use?

JD04 asked 2 years ago

I'm trying to set up my router in order to use Bit Torrent, but ever since I reset my router (just turned it off and on), it has been a problem. In my router settings, I used "Use Static IP Address" and "Use These DNS Servers". I put the numbers that I found on the command prompt. After I entered in those numbers, I can't access the web, but if I click on "Get Dynamically From ISP" in both "Internet IP Address" and "Domain Name Server (DNS) Address" then I am able to visit websites easily.

I tried many methods on trying to fix this problem such as ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew. I've done the "Use the following IP address" and "Use the following DNS server addresses" under the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

I'd recommend reading up a bit on the two links in my email signature. The IP address you put in the router is not the same as what you use when you run ipconfig in your case. This is because of Network Address Translation.

All you really need to do for Bit Torrent, and you don't necessarily NEED to, is to forward some ports.
