I did a test this morning from my Yahoo account sent via the web to my Gmail account. When viewing the message header, about 3/4 of the way down, I see a line that says:
Received: from [xx.xx.xx.xx] by web55704.mail.re3.yahoo.com via HTTP;
The IP in brackets is my home IP address.
Looks like the originating IP can be traced in Yahoo mail.
I am trying to track an email ip address and want to know how close can a trace get to the correct location.
example I live in NH and I believe the email is coming from Newport NH but when I trace the IP address it says the address is coming from Suncook NH
this is an yahook account and a fairpoint ip address range
any help would be great.
Hi I have just joined this site. I have tried to trace an email on Yahoo using the instructions including Yahoo! - Right click the note and choose View Full Headers but have had no joy. When I wroght click the note there is a box that comes up with various features but nothing that even resembles View Full Headers. Can you assist me please? What am I doing wrong.

This what i got from viewing the full headers and it all says it from United states somewhere. If i send a email from a gmail account to another gmail account is is a 100% that it can't be traced or is there some or other way to get it traced without getting the police etc involved? Please help?
