remote camera internet access

stevethalomid asked 2 years ago

Hi. I bought a Foscam F18918W for home security. The camera is great when I am in range of our home router (Linksys WRT54G). However I cannot access the camera from a remote WiFi location via the internet. I have obtained a DDNS address which works via our home router but ,again, not remotely. The subnet mask for the camera, router (setup) and PC appear to be the same (255.255.255.0),but, in router status the mask is different (255.255.254.0) Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Thanks for your question stevethalomid.

The subnet mask is not likely to be the problem.

You need to forward a port in your router to the internal IP address of the camera. Sometimes it's port 80 but they usually use an alternate port for the webcams such as 8080. It depends on the camera setup.
