New member with network access question.

bergamin fortunati asked 2 years ago

Hello all, I hope that I am posting this to the correct forum. Besides being ignorant of networking, my problem is as follows;

I have a DVR with an IP address of 192.168.x.x that I am trying to access from the internet with my laptop. My public IP address is 24.158.xx.xx. I can log into the DVR from my local network using the internet but cannot do so from a different network using the same laptop. It displays an "Invalid login".

I am sure the problem is a setting that needs attention but I do not have any idea where to check. If anyone has some directions or, could direct me to the information needed, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you for any comments and suggestions that you wish to offer.

Thanks for your question Bear

I need to make sure I know what you mean here. From your network, you can access the DVR at the external IP address(24.158.xx.xx) or the internal IP(192.168.x.x)??

If your able to access it locally at the internal IP but not outside at the external IP, You will need to set a port forward in the router to the internal IP of the DVR.
