I have a huge network infrastructure, and we use various types of switches from Cisco to D-Link. But I suffer from a lot of ping timeouts (Yes I'm on DSL, not leased line). Dynamic IPs could be cause, since all connections disconnect when the IP changes. So, I also got a static IP. I see no improvement. Anything I could do to stop/reduce these timeouts? Any settings for routers? Ideas would be appreciated.
Any packet loss within your network?
Is there a way for you to connect directly to your DSL modem while avoiding all other equipment on the network? Then test your ping. If it's good, the problem is on your network.
My first instinct is either a bad cable, failing switch, or one or more of the computers on the network possibly has malware.
If all of the above have been checked, it's probably time to call in the DSL provider and have them test your line.
