Hi, recently(today) for some strange reason my ip address just will not change anymore.
I have a netgear router and tried the mac address way but it doesn't work anymore.
The strange thing is before all of this my internet went out for like 20 minutes and came back. When it came back on...I couldn't change my ip anymore.
I really don't know what to do now as I am depended on changing my ip frequently. I sent a email to my isp asking whats going on. I hope it's just some small issue and they didn't give me a static ip.
Any suggestions or helpful tips you can give me?
Thanks for your question LegendKiller.
The method needed to change your external IP is relative to the ISP you have. It will be difficult to help you without knowing that.
I would doubt that your ISP has assigned a static IP without adding a monthly charge to your bill.
I would point out that changing your IP does not provide any better security for you then having the same IP all the time. If you monitor you external access through a router log, you will find that your IP is probed all day, every day, regardless of how often you change it. The bots that do the probing are many, literally in the millions. Most of them prob IP's sequentially with only a slight focus on IP's they have found open ports on.
