How can when running a VPN WhatIsMyIP display my real IP? Not the IP of VPN. Am I cheating when thinking that by running a VPN I'm protected while actually everyone knows my IP?

It depends how the VPN provider you're using has their connections running. If we see your real IP, then others can see the same IP as well. Perhaps try a different VPN provider, check our site and see what we show.
