Is there any way of telling whether your hotmail account has been hacked or not? Would they have hacked Microsoft or just my email to achieve this? This was done a long time ago but they are still doing illegal things to me behind my back. I believe this happened when I sent a person an email a long time ago which is how they knew about my account. The person almost immediately after got rid of the email address I sent the message to to cover their tracks. I no longer have the email account as I didn't want them to keep doing it. However, I still remember the specific email addresses. Does Microsoft keep a record of old email addresses and messages sent? If caught, is there any legal action that can be taken against them? What are the penalties? Thanks very much for any replies.
I think you can go under options and tell hotmail to save a copy of sent messages in the sent folder.
However, if you think your account has been hacked, change your password immediately.
Keep in mind that someone can send a message as you without gaining access to your hotmail account. That's called email spoofing. There's nothing you can really do about it....spammers use this method almost exclusively.
