How to find out my external IP address when using FTP?

Naxa86 asked 2 years ago

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know how to find out your external IP address when you connect to an FTP server? Normally, it is the same as when you connect via HTTP, but I am going through a wireless ISP and they are giving me a different HTTP IP and FTP IP (so I cannot use the IP given at http://www.whatismyip.com/).

The problem arises when I go to log into an FTP site that is blocked by IP. I can easily submit my IP address for their whitelist - but I cannot find out what it is!

I found a method that works perfectly, but only for AS/400 users (am on on windows 7)

I have tried the above method through the windows command prompt, but the 'status' command does not list my external IP.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your question Naxa86.

It seems strange to me that your http and ftp IP's would be different because you could have both active at the same time. That would mean your modem would have to be assigned 2 IP's at the same time.

I wonder if your ISP is using a proxy for your connection?
