Hi Gary. Generally speaking, ports are kind of pre-assigned. Example, port 3389 is very typical for remote desktop access. You'll need to login to your router to see the current list of forwarding ports to make sure nothing else is already on port 3389. Once determined, refer to your routers user manual and forward port 3389 to the correct internal IP address that's assigned to the device you wish to remotely connect to. Once that's done, you'll need to know your external IP. From your remote location, you should now be able to connect.
