Help with remote access

Menessis asked 4 years ago

I'm trying to learn how to set up a pc at home so run gamming software and allow my friends access to it so they can start a game.

I don't know where to look first to learn how to do this. I know this is a very general question but I need to start some where.

Any help please.

Thanks for your question Menessis.

I guess the first step would be to determine what game you want to setup a server for, determine what ports it will require and make sure your ISP is not blocking those ports.

The ports are the specific access ports the game server will use to allow incoming connections. In your router, the port or ports will need to be forwarded to the internal IP address of the game server.

Then you need to make sure your ISP is not blocking those ports. Also make sure you know what your bandwidth usage limits are and try to determine what the bandwidth usage would be from others running the same server.
