Forcing My ISP to assign a new IP address

Altair4 asked 2 years ago

hello, ok I have a linksys WRT54G2V1 router, Im told that changing the MAC address in the router will fourc the ISP to assign a new IP address. I have the instructions written down, the instructions say "in the clone mac tab change the last number in the last box, for instance [74] to [75]" however when I go there the last box has a number & a letter [8E]. The instructions didn't cover this, what do I do? And Should I disconnect the other computer from the router?

A MAC address is Hexadecimal so it'll cover 0-9 and A-F. Any of those combinations should suffice.

by the way, should I disconnect or shut off the other computer while doing this?
