Can Yahoo email be traced to a SPECIFIC Location?

FLIssue asked 2 years ago

Hate to ask this again, but in reading the above, I need to find out for certain...

I have a situation, where I need to provide someone with some very specific information, but do NOT want this tracked back to me as its information she needs to know, but not where it came from. I am very concerned with the IP search function - I have tested and retested sending messages to myself at different addresses, and then doing a search from the Yahoo ip string...comes back always as Sunnyvale, CA from Yahoo's server, and I am in Florida, so that would appear to be ok.

Is that as far as it could go? Thank you in advance.

Most likely, tracing back to Sunnyvale, CA is as far as it would go. However, if what you're doing is illegal, law enforcement could subpoena Yahoo records which would most likely show your real IP. Another subpoena would be needed for your ISP in order for them to divulge your personal information. When tracing an IP using tools like ours, the user is only going to get the city and that's not always 100% correct.
