Can someone hack into my laptop remotely?

Par2Win asked 2 years ago

I have a laptop with wireless connection. My wireless is not secured at our home. My Yahoo email password was not complicated.
I use my laptop at different clients' offices. They have wireless.
I'm being accused of sending mean emails from my laptop. The accuser says the emails show the emails came from directly from my laptop because then can tell by the IP addresses, etc.

I suspected someone was using my laptop remotely. Is this possible?
Can they cause an email to be sent directly from my laptop (my Yahoo email account) even though the email was actually generated from a different computer and thus all the IP addresses, router, modem info, etc will show it came from my laptop?

Help! I'm despirately looking for answers

This means that someone on your wireless network could be monitoring your traffic and grabbing your passwords if you are logging into an unsecure site, or using FTP, etc...

If you believe it is weak, change it to something more robust.

Its possible that your network traffic was monitored at any of the other wireless access points you've used.

Short answer: Yes, but it would be pretty complicated and would take some know-how.

I can send you an email that looks like it came from your yahoo account right now, its not hard. But someone competent could prove that it came from a different source other than your yahoo acct. How did you check the "IP addresses, router, modem info, etc"?
