I wrote to this forum over a year ago because I lost my hotmail account.I passed the validation proccess but failed to provide the correct IP address. No matter how much I explain this to them don't accept that I cannot provide them with the same Ip address when I lost the account. Is it possible to find a IP address for a certain day, lets say 28 May 2012 11:11.
Welcome back montyie.
The short answer is yes, it is possible. The process may not be as simple as the answer. Your ISP has recorded your IP address for every moment you are connected to them. They are not always cooperative in releasing that information.
Another method would be to contact any game or forum sites you had posted on during that day and see if they still have that information. For example, I can tell you what your IP was when you registered on our forum and each time you posted to it.
Webmasters also have log files that will tell them the IP of everyone that visits their website. The problem here is that those files are typically deleted after 4 to 6 weeks.
You also might look at the full header of emails you sent from that account on the day in question. For example, if you sent an email to your Mother on that day, see if she still has the email and see what the header info is. A problem with this method is that Hotmail doesn't always include the originating IP in the header.
Another possibility would be if you have been using a Dynamic DNS Service for some reason, they would probably have a log file that would identify your IP on a given day.
There are probably many other methods of discovering a past IP as well. If anyone knows of any, please post them.
